Each of these statues is located in the Stadio dei Marmi, or Stadium of Marbles in the Foro Italico complex. Most of these statues have a name on the pedestal corresponding to a province of Italy. Some of the statues have accoutrements that correspond to their provinces, like the skier from Bolzano or the sailor from Venice. Their statue number refers to their position around the stadium starting with Rome, the first statue dedicated in 1931. Most of the statues have stayed in the same shape since the 1930s, although some have lost hands or other extremities.
